In a recent TripBarometer by TripAdvisor survey, travelers and accommodation-providers both agreed that eco-friendly travel is important.*
TripAdvisor has launched our new GreenLeaders Program in celebration of the eco-friendly practices that accommodations are implementing! It’s our way of recognizing properties that are adopting green practices.
If you’d like to participate in the GreenLeaders Program,
the first step is to complete an application at green.tripadvisor.com. Based on your application, you may receive a GreenLeader Award – either Partner, Bronze, Silver, Gold or Platinum. If you receive an award, a certificate for your front desk will be sent to you and a badge will appear on your TripAdvisor listing page to help travelers identify your accommodation as eco-friendly.
Here are a few more things you should know about the GreenLeaders Program:
- It’s a completely free and voluntary program – just submit an application at green.tripadvisor.com (you must be a verified business representative)
- It’s currently open to hotels and B&B’s in the United States, with plans to expand to other countries soon
- Awards are valid for one year and properties can reapply annually
- Award levels are determined based on the extent of green practices you have in place
Winning properties can celebrate by adding the GreenLeaders widget to their own websites. To get yours, visit www.tripadvisor.com/widgets. The widget will live on your website until your GreenLeaders Award expires. If you win another GreenLeaders Award in the future, the widget will automatically refresh to your new level.
Have you been going green? Get the recognition you deserve and attract more eco-friendly travelers! Visit green.tripadvisor.com to get started or check out our two-part interview with Jenny Rushmore, TripAdvisor’s Director of Responsible Travel (Part 1 | Part 2) for helpful tips.

Earlier this month, TripAdvisor for Business traveled to New Delhi to present at SATTE 2013, the 20th edition of one of South Asia’s leading B2B travel and tourism trade exhibitions. While in India, we also had the pleasure of congratulating 70 of the country’s 104 Travelers’ Choice Hotel Award winners at a TripAdvisor awards evening held at The Leela Palace. A good time was had by all, from the award winners who traveled from nearby to join us, including the General Manager of The Leela, Tamir Kobrin, to those who made the journey from over 1,000 miles away in Kerala. A toast to this year’s award winners!
Following the announcement of the 2013 TripAdvisor Travelers’ Choice Hotel Awards, properties have been posting their wins all over the web! They worked hard to provide the best hospitality to their guests and are ready to celebrate their success. We’ve seen numerous hotels showing their excitement through Facebook, Twitter, and press releases.

After a successful Certificate of Excellence celebratory bash in London on Wednesday evening, the TripAdvisor for Business team headed back across the Atlantic to host a second party in New York City on Thursday.
May 2012 marked the launch of TripAdvisor’s third round of Certificate of Excellence awards. This year, an even greater number of businesses provided exemplary service than during the previous year. As a result, even more accommodations, restaurants, and attractions were awarded a 2012 Certificate of Excellence. And what better way to honor these winners than to throw a cocktail party on top of the Ink48 Hotel in Manhattan. New York City winners braved sweltering summer temperatures to attend the party at Press Lounge – Ink48’s 16th floor outdoor terrace and indoor lounge – and were rewarded with stunning views of the Manhattan skyline and the Hudson River.
With champagne in hand, 180 guests assembled on the outdoor terrace, where Julio Bruno – TripAdvisor’s Global Vice President of Sales – toasted the winners. Julio congratulated the winning hotels – which ranked in the top 10% of all accommodations listed on TripAdvisor – as well as the winning restaurants and attractions.
Proud Certificate of Excellence winners mingled and enjoyed cocktails and appetizers as the sun set over Manhattan. Winners also celebrated with Ollie the Owl, who dressed up for the occasion and donned his signature bowtie. At least one winner managed to land a kiss on Ollie’s beak; rumor has it that Ollie blushed beneath his feathers.
The TripAdvisor for Business team thanks New York City winners who attended this year’s cocktail party and extends its congratulations to all Certificate of Excellence winners worldwide. Stay excellent – we hope to see you at next year’s party.

With more Certificate of Excellence winners than ever before, we thought it would be great to celebrate with some of these amazing businesses! Our first stop was in London, at the modern Spanish restaurant Aqua Nueva, where 260 accommodations, restaurants and attractions accepted their Certificate of Excellence award. The winners were treated to great weather and views of central London atop two beautiful terraces. Guests enjoyed modern Spanish cuisine, as well as a signature TripAdvisor cocktail called the “Certini of Excellence.” And Alison Copus, Vice President of Marketing, TripAdvisor for Business, was on hand to congratulate the winners on their award and joined everyone for a group champagne toast.

Throughout the evening, Ollie mingled and posed for photos with the winners. Everyone also had the chance to have their photo taken with their award behind various backgrounds of their choice. Here is a slideshow of a few of our favorite shots:

A hard copy certificate was sent to Certificate of Excellence winners and should be in mailboxes by mid-July. If you don’t receive one by then, or would like a copy in a different language, look no further than your Management Center! We have set up an online form that you can fill out and we will mail a personalized paper certificate commemorating a year of great service to your guests.
Here are the steps to order a certificate:
1) Log on to your property’s Management Center.
2) Click on “Online Marketing Tools.”
3) Click on “View options” under the “Display your rating and reviews” section.
4) From there, you will see your Certificate of Excellence widget. Click on “Select” under the widget.
5) Scroll down to the “Display a certificate in your property too!” section.” Click on “Get Certificate.”
6) Fill out the form with your property’s information. A paper certificate should arrive in about 8 weeks.
Once you receive the certificate, be sure to share it with your guests and staff, then show us how you do it! Tweet us your photos and/or videos @TripAdvisor4Biz and we will re-tweet as many as possible!
Previous recipients have framed and displayed their Certificate of Excellence Award at their front desk or lobby for all guests to see. We have also seen great photos of staff gathered around with a copy of their certificate.
